Wikipedia has an entry, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenOffice.org_Base . If you then search the word "tutorial" you can read one on "Sheepdog Guides". There we learn its real name is "ooBase", and they threw out something called Adabas, which was in the v1 commercial oo. (There's a downside to progress). The link says "for new and intermediate ooBase users", so it ought to be helpful.
