I dunnoh. To me, once you turn on those "-O" flags I kind of expect the
resultant program to be the minimum of code and data to do the job.
Anything else would be a surprise.

Now, it is a bit surprising if the data gets left out even without
turning on optimizations. Understandable, but surprising.
