Dunno if Ken Arnold invented that format or not. But I saw his name
in association with it earlier today, so I tend to think the format
did indeed originate with the fortune program.

Yup.

For awhile I was building Tcl/Tk automation widgets for fun. 

Wonder what happened to all that code?
