I have what may be an IBM problem masquerading as a HW problem. I have a box with an IBM 20 G HD (see subject) that claims to have bad sectors galore under M$ Win 98. I need M$ on this for my son's flight simulation programs.
When I try to configure the BIOS hard, it claims problems under both the RH FC3 install and the M$ install with sectors beyond reach. When I make it Auto/Auto, M$ chokes at 17% formatted with a disk chucking sound. FC3 is now installing on auto, and seems to be having no problems. Any ideas on what gives? Obviously I can't discount the possibility of disk failure, but it being IBM, are there jumper settings I don't know about?
