Due respect accepted (it ain't much, alas).

What Carl said. Especially the installfest. Go. Take your computer.
Watch senior Kpluggers do all the hard work. And learn.

Here's another thought. If you spend the same amount of time at the
installfest upgrading to FC4 you'll automatically get the newer Firefox
and lots more too.

The decision to upgrade or not is a very personal one. On the one hand,
a good argument can be made for not dinking with a working box unless
there is a compelling reason. Unwanted things can happen.

On the other hand, real progress is made on many fronts between
releases, progress that's not always announced. For example, there have
been huge and amazing strides in both PostgreSQL and Tcl/Tk between FC3
and FC4, and unless you follow those programs, you wouldn't even know.
But if you plan to use either of those (wonderful) programs, make the
upgrade before you start.

I guess in your position, I'd ask myself if getting the new Firefox was
a compelling reason; and I'd also ask myself how much customization and
neat stuff I had on my FC3 box outside of /home. If the answer is
"compelling enough and not much," I'd go for it.

And you never know, some upgrades/reinstalls go smoothly :-)
