One additional thought to add tot he good advice already posted. I
believe that there is a free software issue with some codecs, especially
mpeg, which (again) I believe is patented. This makes it unshippable for
RH or Fedora ... but products like xine can take codec plug-ins that are
available in rpm around and about.

Totem may also have such plug ins, but I expect you'll have to look for
them.
