You might try the "Web Developer" extension (plugin)
It allows you to turn off & on things like images (in various
categories), and javascript. You can just install it and play with the
menus (or toolbar buttons, if you enable it's toolbar). On a per page
basis, you may need to experiment with interrupting loading (ESC or
X-button), change options, reload (F5 or the Chase-Tail button).

You most likely (on dialup) do not have the flash plugin, I hope.
