I have always had very good experiences with Asus and Abit mobos. I
have used them exclusively for Desktop/Workstation for many years. My
only real advise would be to avoid the onboard video/audio stuff which
both seem to make a lot of. I feel it is better to not have at all as
compared to having but disabling it via the BIOS. Its hard to find
mobos without everything built on nowadays.

Thats a broad question. If i had the money i would get one of those
new quad core Intels with 12MB of L2 cache. There over $1000 at
Newegg. Otherwise I would go with 2 dual core processors each is going
to have 4MB for a total of 8MB, and you won't have a central point of
failure. Funds may answer your question for you.

Currently I run an Abit AV8-3rd Eye with the uGuru add on. Has an
Athlon FX60 (939) and 2GB RAM running Ubuntu 7.10 (64). I have an
older Nvidia 7600 with 512 of RAM (AGP). Its getitng a bit old now but
still runs everything great. I've been an AMD fan for a while but this
new Intel stuff is pretty nice.

I have a Debian Etch web server running a 1.8 Core2 Duo processor with
and 1GB RAM at a colo in SD. Its CLI only and has been a dream so far.
Im not really trying to go for an uptime record but its at 157 days
with no significant issues. Knock on wood.
