Let me try to dig out some of the underlying information.
Presumably this disk is physically attached to the real computer in
some way. How about some details there.
Also presumably the disk has to be known to the host system before
VMWare can do anything with it and attach it to a guest system. More
details. It might even help to tell us what the host system is.
Maybe all of this is completely obvious to you.
