Gregory is the new secretary immediately. I'm the new director of
membership. I'm getting two member data bases (Gus's and Claude's).
We'll do a mailing to the life members.
The subject of the SDCS web site was flogged to death. Everybody has
wiz-bang ideas but none of them will work. Finally retreated to a simple
site with contact info and a link to each Sig web site. Somebody agreed
to handle it (maybe Greg again, not Josh I don't think).
There was a discussion of how the SDMUG officers could remain SDCS
officers after SDMUG pulled out. The solution (after much too much
discussion) was they all declared a dual membership in an active Sig
(paid by their SDMUG dues) to cover them as active SDCS members.
Toward the close, John Alvarado shared his vision for SDCS. It was the
old one about salaried employees, except this time, there was a
store-front office as well -- kinda like King Bail Bonds. I didn't see
anyone smiling or shaking his head, except Gus, who was shaking his head
all night and doesn't count.
Josh shared his vision, mostly to cover the embarrassing silence after
John was finished. Josh's mostly suggested that leadership could and
would appear when we need it. Because people were throwing visions
around, I shared mine which translated to "could we please get this
transition done and get this thing on an even keel before we start
drawing up plans for world conquest and office space?" I've been accused
of having pinched vision. Probably true.
What else? It was pretty cordial (except for Gus shaking his head).
There was the usual sidewalk meeting of Kplug afterward ("Office space
and salaries, for chrissake!? Who was that guy!?") I think that was from
Andrew. Gus reassured him that (1) it would never happen, and (2) he'd
hear it again every meeting that John A. attended.
BTW, there was pretty good Sig representation. OS/2, PC, South Bay.
