How difficult and expensive is it to replace the bulbs?

Depending on the unit, the bulb can be anywhere from $500-$700. They're not cheap. They're more likely to die the more the unit is handled/transported, so you'd want to get a projector that's designed to be portable, as it would (hopefully) be designed to protect the bulb a little more.

With care, bulbs can last a few years with regular use, but we'd want to budget a replacement bulb every couple years or so just to be safe. Maybe get one when we get the projector so there's always one on-hand.
