The light cloth that Ken is probably referring to is
known as scrim cloth.  Aerospace companies use this in
CF layups where fasteners are going to be drilled and
as a barrier ply to prevent galvanic corrosion.  This
fiberglass cloth is very light, about the same
thickness as ladies pantyhose, although most strength
engineers will not count this ply in their strength
calculations, most will admit (offline) that it does
in fact contribute to how the laminae behave.  It
definitely helps during the assembly processes to
prevent splintering during drill operations.  You can
se it in alot of wing skin OMLs, it creates a duller
finish compared to the Carbon plys.
