Sure, why not. However, I flew mine for 6 years and never even pulled the tension out of the spring. Why go to a pet store when they are relatively inexpensive from Wicks or AS?
I have been there and done that. Put in a compression spring and you might as well direct connect it with a cable. The tail is so light and the wheel so small that you cannot get enough pressure to bring the wheel straight, if you happen to be landing with a little rudder input.
