General rule of thumb is:
All metal lock nuts in engine compartment.
Elastic lock nuts on all other bolts where castellated are not used.
Castellated must be used on any bolt that pivots or holds a pivoting
component such as bellcranks, push tubes, cable shackles, etc...
Always use AN hardware.
Tony Bingelis' construction books cover all of these. The three books of his
I high recommend are; Firewall Forward; Sportplane Construction Techniques;
and The Sportplane builder. EAA sell these as a package deal.
