Duncan, The original KR retracts are very low. Later builders installed longer, fixed-gear and some used larger wheels, setting the plane (and prop) further from the earth, making it look bigger and much easier to see around the airplane patch. You can see several different types in Mark Langford's photos at his site. There are a few on my photo albums (links below) as well. In fact, come to think of it, most questions about the KR can be answered by reading through Mark Langford's site.
