Hey, you just asked WHY, not if it actually WORKED!  Reality is probably
that the tailwheel is so light that it just skitters along when you land
with it cocked off to one side, so it probably doesn't matter one bit, like
you said.  On my plane the tailwheel doesn't have much to do anyway, since
it's up almost immediately after adding power, so what do I know anyway?
