I have seen grooves in the VW bores from running 100 LL. We cured this by cutting .020 off the edge of the piston from the top down to the top ring land to give the lead sufficient room to build and slough off. David Roe ran his 1/2 VW for 700 hours with no further scratching after modifying the pistons. The pistons and cylinders looked great when the case failed after 700 hours. We also did the same mod on the 2180 VW I built for my Avid Flyer. It also showed no scratching in the bores when I sold it. Jeff Scott N1213W
