We just bought a bunch of the Xcom radios for our club gliders and our towplane. I was pretty impressed with the operation, features, and performance. I like the fact that they have a built in intercom and music input also. We don't use the intercoms on the gliders and I have not put in jacks to input my MP3 yet in the towplane, but the audio is very clear on the radio and VERY loud when you turn it up so I am expecting the intercom and music input to work good.
The Xcoms and several of the other smaller radios, especially the ones originally designed for gliders, don't have as much power as some of the other radios, but the two watts they are missing isn't really noticed when you have a good antenna. Having said that, I hate be frustrated by poor communication and/or having to fiddle with a radio in flight to get what I want out of it, so when it came time I did a bit of checking and ended up with a Xcom 760. They have a comparison WEB page http://www.mcp.com.au/xcom760/comparison/comparison.html which high lights all it's great features (I checked the WEB page facts against the manifacture's information on the WEB and found no errors, 2 years ago) We spend a lot of money on our aircraft and then try to save a buck on an important safety item like a radio??????? I'm going to buy an Icom A-5 for backup in my KR2 and in club gliders, which seem to have a lot of radio issues :-) My thoughts, for what they're worth (2 cents, more or less) Regards Barry Kruyssen Cairns, Australia [email protected] http://www.users.bigpond.com/kr2/kr2.htm _______________________________________ Search the KRnet Archives at http://www.maddyhome.com/krsrch/index.jsp to UNsubscribe from KRnet, send a message to [email protected] please see other KRnet info at http://www.krnet.org/info.html
