I'm at that point right now,and you will have to work with the template.I put my elevator together with the templates on and the hinges and then traced the foam on the horizontal for the radii I needed and then sanded.I think it is going to work fine.As far as just putting the templates on and using them the way they are will leave you a big gap to cover..
