AOPA has programs that will cover you in whatever plane you are in, including experimental, as well as being a CFI, which I have at this time, and it is cheaper than Allstate or State Farm for the same coverage amount, without GA aircraft coverage. The key is to get an Insurance Carrier that has good statistics on the safety and accident rates of GA aircraft, and then accurate quotes can be made. AOPA gives current data to Minnesota Life who insures me. With accurate and current information, any insurance company can calculate potential losses and have programs priced accordingly.
