Hello folks; I own the Sam Bailey KR-1 here in the Los Angeles area. Some of you may have seen the picture on the GP website. http://www.greatplainsas.com/vwsbailey.html . It does not have a charging system and thus no transpornder or altitude encoder. Becuase of this I cannot operate it withing Class B airspace
I intend to install a Stator and Rotor in the Diehl Accessory Case so that I can then install an altitude encoding transponder. I was wondering if the stator and rotor setup sold by GP provides sufficient power for VFR use and if any of you have created your own charging system. If you have, I would greatly appreciate any advice on what you have used. I have seen the higher power stators available from Harley aftermarket vendors that claim 32 - 40 amps. Have any of you used these? Are any of you aware of limitations on using these. Marc Baca [email protected] East Los Angeles
