Jack, I've had an Ameri-king in my Mooney for many years and never had a
problem with it.

I called an Avionics shop a while back about my encoder sometimes not working.
He ask what brand encoder I had? I said Ameriking. He said that was the
problem. Wants to sell me a new encoder (not Ameriking, can't remember the
brand), but the encoder, install and test it about $700. I don't have a new
encoder yet.

Have you flown it since?  Langford said he toasted his transponder
when he turned it on without it being hooked to an antenna.  Good luck........
