Wooden props are tightened to less than 20 ft/lbs and checked at annual. Any more and the wood just yields (crushes) Bolts need to engage the bore along the full length to spread the loads evenly. Wood is weak in compression, strong in tension and shear. Peter

All done digging holes for fence posts till Spring. The horses have enough pasture now to last. In the process of flipping the mains around to the front of the spar and adding the tail wheel stuff. I was in the process of tightening the bolts for the left side main and got nervous. I know not to crush the wood. After snugging each one down I went back through to re check them and found each time that they seem to be loose. So when does a person stop snugging, when the spar screams ouch? I know I am worrying too much. Hey, I was just on the web site and going through all of your projects and completions. Man does that get a person pumped up. I cant wait till I am in the completed section. OK I'll shut up now.
