A quick question about the range on that adapter. The Home Depot website says
range is 29 - 147 ft-lbs. Is 29 ft-lbs really the low end?

I have one of those gizmos in my tool box to check against the torque settings
on my torque wrenches. It should have come with a calibration certificate. I
bought one because I was convinced my 1/2 drive torque wrench was way out of
spec and wanted to verify it. Turned out that it and the torque load cell were
in agreement. Generally speaking the load cells don't really tend to drift
much. However, the FAA's view for maintenance technicians is that our torque
wrenches need to be calibrated by a certified calibration Lab annually if they
are going to be used on certificated aircraft. For Experimental Amateur Built
Aircraft, there are no requirements.
Reminds me of once when I did a 2 day free W&B clinic in my hangar. The FSDO
guys cautioned me that unless I had a current calibration certificate on the
scales, even though they were correct, I was not allowed to issue a new W&B for
a certificated aircraft. I could only give them a copy of the W&B as an
advisory. When I asked about Experimentals, they laughed and said anything I
did was likely to be an improvement since most of them were weighed on bathroom
scales anyway.
