I'm hesitant to rely on the 'facet' type electric pump - they look kind of
flimsy & if the pump stops the engine quits...

This statement is not necessarily true. Back in the early days of my KR2S flying with my EFS-3 Corvair engine I had a complete pump failure due to a broken ground wire. Being young and dumb at the time I had just buzzed my brother in laws house and went to pull up. I applied full throttle and nothing happened. Pucker factor: HUGE. I was about 500 feet and was thinking of nothing but where I was going to land the plane. I headed straight for the interstate about three miles in front of me. My engine was running at about 1900 RPM which was enough to keep me level. I was now 13 miles from the airport which was straight down the interstate. Now realizing I had a 13 mile runway in front of me I began to calm down and focused on getting to the airport. No fuel pumps but the engine was sucking enough fuel through the EFS-3 to keep her airborne. Back at the airport I found the ground wire which serviced both pumps had broken. The Facet pumps themselves never failed me in 549 flight hours I put on my KR2S. I may have sold my KR2S but I still have the memories. The worst memory is selling the plane. I wish I could go back and reverse that sale.
