Hi Steve,

I estimate that I had at least 30 or so engine failures in two stroke
ultralights. Without a single exception, these were always caused by:

1. VBelt failures
2. Spark plug foliage.

If one changes the plugs every 18hours, use a gearbox, then all of these are
eliminated. I have 850 hours behind two strokes, and I am well at peace flying
behind one again. If one does not keep the weight down, then yes, I agree it
would be downright silly to use one. But if the empty weight can be kept closer
to 400lbs, one is in for a very pleasant flying experience, landing in the
normal range of ultralight landing speeds which speaks volumes for itself.

Kind regards,

Henni
South Africa

If you have never flown with a 2 cycle engine you must remember that they are
every bit as reliable as your weed eater.
I am not guessing at this , I have landed many times where I hadn't planed to
with these. It's not a if, its a when.
