I never used them as I've not flown at night in the 650 hours on the KR
and they are not bright enough during the day for recognition.  I often
hear from the tower "not in sight, cleared to land".  My strobes are
Radio Shack quality so I thought I'd upgrade if cost is reasonable.  I
might pop for $300 to get a good quality, bright strobe and see if they
are visible in daylight.  I've already switched to the LED wing and tail
light to cut the current draw as I only have a 10 amp B&C alternator.
Quite sufficient up till now but can't add much more electrical load.
As for keeping up with Jeff and his "Christmas tree", not possible.

FWIW, WigWag landing lights seem to work best for recognition. I plan to
replace the Whelen relay driven wigwag controller with a light weight
electronic one from Perihelion Design this spring now that I have figured out
why I kept letting the smoke out of them. (I smoked 3 controllers at $80 ea a
few years ago, each time resulting in a small fire and clouds of smoke) Larry,
I'll give you the Whelen wigwag controller brick once I remove it. It even has
an option of 7 flashing patterns or rotating patterns.

The "Christmas tree" strobes are bright at night, but the very short duration
flash makes them kind of useless during day time. If I was buying new today,
I'd buy the new LED "strobes" as they show up better at night as the flash
lasts longer and the current draw is significantly less.
