Friend had had his 0-200 alternator rebuilt twice and it's gone out again.
He mentioned having oil on the belly and my thoughts are the following.
Push rod tube oil leakage, or excessive crankcase pressure from bad rings
causing blow by in excess of Air/oil separator, Air/Oil separator tube or
tank issues. Alternator gear not having enough back lash causing oil
leakage ( common to 0-200)

Jeff Scott would be a more knowledgeable source on this but I'll give some thoughts base on my experience.

Push rod tubes can be a major source of oil leaks if they are getting old and hard.  New ones can leak a massive amount of oil if not seated correctly.  A good air/oil separator, if working correctly, should not put oil on the belly but return it to the crankcase even with excessive blow-by.  Alternator should not leak, even with a bad alternator, if the gasket is good.  Does he have a pull type starter.  My plunger was leaking until I installed a new seal.  I've been running B&C alternators and they just don't leak with a good gasket.  He could be getting case split leakage on the bottom of the case or possibly leakage at the case through bolts if not sealed good.  Sometimes I think an 0-200 will leak oil until the sump is empty regardless of what you do to fix the leaks.  He might try the oil dye test.  Auto parts stores carry the dye and you use a good "black light" to find the leaks. Wash the engine, run it, then check for leaks.  I tried that but the UV lights I purchased were basically useless.  You need a good one for any success.

Good luck.
