Ring terminals are a pretty common way of mounting CHT thermocouples to all kinds of things. Don't you have a ring terminal under your head stud now? Seems like a leakage problem with the under-the-sparkplug CHT probe would most likely be caused by putting a ring larger diameter than the sparkplug over the plug's counterbore, thus never really sealing at all. That's why I was careful to choose a ring terminal that would fit in the counterbore. Otherwise, it's just an aluminum crush washer, very similar to what normally comes with spark plugs, oil drain plugs, and sensors on cars. Also I can say is that I've never had that problem, and I've been running CHT probes under plugs for something like 45 years now, and the one time I tried the stud method the stud broke a few days or weeks later. Only stud I've ever had break, and I've been driving and flying behind VWs and Corvairs for a long time.
