I’m running a Sterba 54x54 prop on my Revmaster 2100D. Stock (plans built,
100%) KR2S, empty weight is ~650 lbs. RAF48 airfoil and wheel pants. I’m
running a Revmaster 2100D with Mofoco 041 heads, so basically in between the
big valve/stock KR2S (intake valve is slightly larger).

Single person (gross ~900 lbs), and ambient air temperature around 50F, I can
climb out around 100 mph indicated and get up to about 700-800 fpm. If I climb
out at 80 mph (Vy), it’s about 900 fpm. Throw in a passenger (so now we’re
talking near gross at full fuel), I average about 400-500 fpm. Once at 3500
feet or so, I can cruise about 108 knots/122 mph (112 knots if the plane is
really clean and polished), at around 3200-3300 rpm. My full throttle
performance yields about 3400 rpm.

Throw in some hot weather (80-90F+ ambient air), and this is where the plane
might seemed little underpowered. Single person climb out was about 600 fpm at
80-90 mph, and at gross yielded about 300-400 fpm. Cruise speed remained about
the same. Static/cruise RPM was slightly lower in the hot weather.

In your case, I wouldn’t think that a 52x52 is that under-propped; many VW
owners are running that same prop with very decent performance. However if you
are looking for a bigger prop, the 54x54 has served me well so far. If you
really want those extra knots at cruise, you could even go with a 54x56.

I previously ran a Culver 54x48 prop and while the climb performance was great,
the cruise speed was not. I barely had 105 knots in cruise with three wheel
pants, and my oil usually ran fairly warm since I had to cruise at a slightly
higher RPM. I don’t have this problem with my 54x54 prop.

Definitely double check the RPM with the digital tachometer.

Feel free to reach out to me personally if you have any further questions!
