Undoubtedly Mark will chime in here with the facts, but it seems to me that one
variant of the AS series airfoil was designed to be a retrofit to the original
spars. However, it is recommended to break the rear spar out of the fuselage
and raise it a bit to correct the incidence of the wing with the AS series
airfoil.

While many seem to poo-poo the RAF-48 airfoil, mostly for it's unknown data
points, it is a gentle airfoil with plenty of warning for stalls. It's less
than ideal for higher speeds, but it's also not that slow. I've not seen
another KR with the same power as mine that is any faster than mine with the
RAF-48 airfoil and Diehl skins.

Generally speaking, if you are building from scratch, taking advantage of a
newer designed airfoil is probably a good idea. But if you have a plane with
the older RAF-48, it's probably not going to be worth the cost and labor to
change it.
