Much thanks to the guys that responded to my concerns about the axle bolt.
As I said, I know squat about aircraft engineering, I'm mostly a motorcycle
guy with a misplaced love of airplanes and flying.
I do find that bikes have a lot in common with aircraft, one case being the
complete roller bearing crankshaft assembly present in Harley-Davidson
motorcycles of any year since the 20's at least. It is that experience that
colored my judgement on the size of the axle bolt. My 1964 Honda Sport 50
weighed a mere 175 pounds and the axle is at least 5 times the surface area
of the KR axle.
It does seem the design is well thought out and as long as the bolt is kept
properly torqued is able to withstand significant loading.
That being said, my complete Diehl nose gear assembly is now available if
someone wants to buy it. I should also mention this aircraft's main gear is
also available. I can't use them for a taildragger. All fittings,
Scotch-Ply legs, hydraulic disc brakes, master cylinder if you want.
Again, no idea of value but I assure you we can work it out if interested.
