I had a few tailwheel rides in a Champ in the back seat with a friend. It was not very helpful, so when I flew my first KR2, the first time, it was pretty much a disaster. But, I did make it up and back down. In my 2nd KR, it did go better even though there was about a 10 year span with no flying at all. As far as ground handling, in a KR, it is like driving a go cart. It goes right where you point it, right now. A few trips up and down the taxi way should be about all anyone needs.
I took some training in the right seat of an RV6 for my bi-annual review and "transition training". Fortunately, the Panther has similar characteristics, but lighter and easier to fly. I did that back in March and have not flown since then, till yesterday. You just have to believe you can do it and know that you can fly an airplane. Much to my pleasure, this was the easiest plane that I have ever flown, and my time in the KR helped a lot. I hope to see y'all at the next Gathering. I did my training in super cub. Lots of ground handling first then slowly increasing speed on runway on and the the throttle to lift and lower the tail to maintain direction. Then full length of runway with the tail up but at the slowest speed to increase the peddling of the rudder. Will be doing the same in my new Kr soon I hope It is actually fun.
