> "Comparing it to a dash mounted unit, I have a 5 watt, 720 channel nav/com with 4 weather channels, 100 memory channels . . ." Same here, although I think I'm putting out more than 5 watts. I know I've been able to talk to towers, other planes at distances of 100 miles or more . . . all from a tiny Icom A6 that was in the plane when I bought it. Ken Cottle had put it in and had installed under the hat shelf a linear amplifier that was being sold for Experimental aircraft use. It was being advertised back in 1987 in one of the aviation trades but was taken off the market, I assume because the FCC complained. With it's lighted keyboard and small size that fits my small cockpit, the A6 is a perfect fit. I carry another Icom in a side pocket with an alkaline battery pack as back-up, but have never needed it. The A6 has a headphone adapter for my Halos.
