Yes, the Joey was composite and predated the Cheetah (metal + fabric) and Sierra (all metal). Gary Morgan took me up in his demonstrator Sierra at a flyin once. I felt it flew very nicely indeed. I was seriously contemplating building one, but at the time couldn't afford to plonk down the cash for a kit.
