My only comment on your daughter's flight, is that she actually is travelling further than the ground distance, because the jet is describing an arc above the earth. She's probably 5 miles up, and going around a circle (earth). Considering the diameter of the earth, I'm guessing that someone else can justify that the groundspeed is only infinitesimally decreased. The dAlt , does have something to do with Mach #, but maybe not enough to make the flight early. You would think that a 150 mph tailwind would though. Remember seeing those Flight Arrivals boards update? That's the sound of the result of the navigator's recalc of arrival time (probably just some Garmin device, though).
