I talked to Dan Diehl a few weeks ago, and he sounded just the like the same Dan, still busy at his business, but unfortunately not doing an KR parts, but focusing more on his "core" business.

I called him last year to see if he had any insight into the tooling setup to make exhaust systems like the one on Jim Faughn's KR2 that I fly.  He had a guy working for him who built the exhaust systems, and when he retired to Mississippi Dan gave him the exhaust tooling so KR builders could continue to replace "expired" exhausts like the one I have.  Unfortunately, the guy with the tooling died unexpectedly, and the tooling was scrapped because nobody knew what it was or who to offer it to!  I have all the parts I need to fabricate a new exhaust system, but the prospect of all that cutting, grinding, fitting, and welding is more than I care to think about at the moment.  And I'm lacking VW engine case to use as a "weld fixture".  Turns out that John Bouyea volunteered to end me his, so that excuse is out the window, and I'll have to suck it up and build that exhaust system soon!

Jim Faughn's alive and doing great also, and stopped by at the KR Gathering two years ago.  I talked to him a few months ago also.

My first ride in a Kr was 35 years ago at the Gathering in Rough River, Kentucky with Dan Diehl.  I stumbled across something on YouTube about "ultralights" and in mentioned "Diehl".  I didn't know Dan developed a rather well performing ultralight called the XTC.  Here is some info on Dan's company.

Anyone in the Oklahoma area know how Dan is doing?
