Why so many complains for one simple bug?

Maybe wrong decision, maybe good (less code duplicity). To reverse
course just because few fixable bugs? Or do you see some real stopper?

P.S.: floating point support could be added there, of course. Including
locales support, of course. Did it somebody earlier than Roland?
