Not to belabor the point, but having been in the alarm business over thirty years and
doing telephone systems also, the alarm system MUST come before any other equipment
through a RJ31X jack.

The Ademco controls will answer the line if the previous call was picked up on the
first ring. I try to install the alarm on the last line of a ring group but I also
strongly suggest customers to wait for the second ring before they pick up the phone
... especially in homes with only one line. The other reason for using the second
line is it keeps the main line free for the incoming call from the Central Station to
verify the alarm [required by most communities before dispatch]. The down side of
using the last line is that if the service to that line is interrupted or
discontinued, the customer might not realize that they have severed their alarm
connection to the Central Station.

The tone heard by the calling party when the alarm panel answers is somewhat unique,
not quite a modem sound and definitely not a FAX sound.

Hope this info helps those that have not experienced this situation.
