As a guy who owned an alarm company and did more than a few installs himself, we always wired in the 31x and simply connected the alarm with a pigtail. No need for splicing there. Otoh, in the alarm trade, even with the new panels, there will always be zones where multiple devices are connected in series. You can use terminal strips or splice.
