Is there a central closet on the floor somewhere?

You can get wire-tracing tools, think of a icecube+torpedo on steroids.
Maybe rentable.

I strongly encourage a wired phone, best a 2500, at least one
place. Why? Power failure+911. Somebody burned to death here
a while back because of same -- other occupants kept trying to
call but guess what.... and users say "But it's CORDLESS, how can
it NOT work?"
