You might be better off calling the phone company and
order call forward feature for your 1st line.  (typ $8
install, $6 /mo)

The line loss makes co to co transfers (fwd) pretty
poor connections.

if you have the 1232 manual, look up co-co transfer
timer, and class of service- co-co enable.  if you can
set that up, the next step is to fwd to co on a slt
that is set to ring on incoming calls.

not trying to be mean, but setting a feature wrong can
mess up your system.  (you said you know nothing about
phone systems)
