It is all just harmless interest.
And I know that RTM is what I have to do. I knew that before, of course. But I wanted to know as well, if I am on the right track at all.
Sorry folks for my clumsy request.

Hi Chris,
be careful, try not to take things too personnally. I didn't see anything
impolite in Ross's comments, he never said "people like you" anywhere in the
email I saw.
Chris:
I re-read the email you sent Ross, and his reply. Charles is correct. By yourself becoming defensive would indicate you are being subversive, and as I see it, Ross was preparing you for the inevitability of hours of frustration. If you are installing this system for yourself, and tinkering with it for your own knowledge base, fine.
If you are installing it for your boss, and you are under a timeline to get the system operational, God help you.
We have seen SO many situations like this, where someone has purchased a system and software, thinking they are saving themselves tons of money, when all they get is tons of problems. Then they come here, and expect us to bail them out. We've seen it countless times.
Panasonic Tech support gets calls like this all the time too. Guys call up and say, " I've got this Panasonic system, and need to install it now!" Tech support asks, Do you have a manual?" and the guy responds, "I don't need no stinkin' manual, it's your product tell me how to put it in, NOW!!"
So you see, we will help you, but help yourself first, and listen to what we say, not what you think we say.
Going off half-cocked, when an experienced individual throws a few caveats your way, and tries to explain what you may be in for. This is not for the faint of heart. As I said before, if you're doing this for your penny pinching boss, start looking for a new job!
so endeth the lesson
