After doing a lot of testing on my KXTA624, I have narrowed I have
narrowed down the "false offhook" problems I reported a couple of months ago
to the control unit causing a line to go off-hook and seizing an outgoing
trunk and locking it up. As you all will remember, I have to take the line
physically off-hook and back on-hook to clear the problem. This originally
happened on a line on line-card 2 (ext 9-16). When I removed the line,
another line started doing it on the same line-card. When I removed the
line-card and connected the lines to vacant lines on the 3rd line card a
line on the main unit (ext 4) started doing it. When I first got the unit I
was seeing some other weird things which were fixed at the time by moving
exts. I have temporarily fixed the problem by having lines select the 2nd
trunk when they go offhook so that callers can still call in on our main
number if the 2nd trunk is seized.
The unit is way out of warranty. My options are to replace the
control unit or change to a KXTD system. I prefer to replace the unit with
another KXTA, but when I reported the problem on the BBS I got several
direct emails from others who have seen similar or other weird problems with
their KXTAs. How do you all feel the reliablility of the KXTA systems are at
this point? Also, if I do go with a KXTD, can I use my KXT7300 phones and
still have the capability of going beyond 16 lines with the KXTD816 816, for
example.
