Several years ago we used custom service menus that went like this

cs 10: for sales press 1, for acct press 2, if you know your party's name press 9
(that goes to cs 50)

cs 50: press the first letter of the last name of your party (2 goes to cs 52, 3 goes
to cs 53... 9 goes to cs 59

cs 52: mike able press 1(goes to ext 109), tom able press 2(goes to ext 141), jim
adams press 3(goes to ext 122)

hope you get the idea, you can also do cs 50: "press the first letter of the first or
last name of your party".
you are sunk if there are more than 10 people in the abc, def, ghi...or wxyz group.
also, we set up another
customer for callers to press the first digit of their zip code to pick their
territory salesperson.
we also had one set for (E)astern, (C)entral, (W)estern US.

admin wasn't too bad since turnover was small, and their computer guy knew how to
mirror(old term program) to the
vm serial port and change cs 52 thru 59 as needed.

hope that helps
