There was a fellow on this list many years ago who said he had done that, just as Carmen described. You cannot forward it directly, at least in all the older systems, since it was not treated with station settings. When it looped back in from an analog ext ringing into a spare co, then that spare co can be sent directly to a dedicated station and the station options (forwarding) can apply.
I remember the guy who said he did it claimed he could open his garage door remotely to allow deliveries and they wouldn't know he wasn't home...
