Do they use a new modem card or fax on the phone system?? Some modems short pins 1&4 when they go off hook

I found that one out while I was trying to isolate a problem on a kxtd1232. I would guess that you have a wiring problem for one or more extensions. Disconnecting that extension wiring from the switch will stop your phones from going crazy. It might take a while to find that problem child.
