Excellent tip Wolfgang!

Some older (very old???) 2500 style sets also shorted 1&4 for A lead control 
(remember THAT??).

An old Trimline or Princess set connected to the system using all 4 wires 
could cause a problem as well.... they had an incandescent bulb connected to 
pins 1&4 that very well might overload a port.
