I have had the same problem with my TA-824 and 7737 proprietary telephones. Message waiting light lit, go off hook and press the message button, display says "Not Valid". I found that in this case if you push the message button before you go off hook, it will show the Extension where the message was sent from. In this case the TVS's extensions. Then go off hook and hit the message button again. It works every time.
