I routinely include a 1000VA UPS with my installs ... mostly 824's. They seem to give at least 8 hours. I have one on my KX-TD1232 in my office with 16 phones and get over 5 hours ... enough time to cancel appointments and go home!
A few years ago I had some problems with some off brands. I now use either APC or Minuteman and have not had any problems.
